Japan Names Its Best Rest Stop Toilet

Japan

In order to encourage highway service station operators to provide the best, ahem, bathroom experiences possible, the Japanese transportation ministry gives out an annual Japan Toilet Award. In order to be eligible for the award, rest stops must have sensors that indicate whether a stall is occupied and indicate if the toilet is Japanese (squatting) style or Western style.

Taking the top prize this year was Neopasa Shimizu, which nabbed its esteemed award thanks to its offering of 72 stalls in the women’s room, 14 stalls in the men’s room, and 32 urinals. This makes it so that the rest stop’s 25,000 weekend visitors wait no longer than two minutes to use the bathroom.
