Giant Snowballs Appear Overnight on Remote Siberian Beach

Snowballs

The Arctic shore of the Siberian coast has been blanketed in giant, cannonball-sized snowballs. Overnight, a vast number of perfectly spherical snowballs appeared on the remote shores of the Gulf of Ob. But what looks like the result of someone stocking up for the world’s most brutal snowball fight is actually a naturally occurring phenomenon.

According to Sergey Lisenkov, the spokesman for the Russian Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute, the snowballs form thanks to “a combination of the action of the wind, the outlines of coastline, and the temperature.”
