This Japanese Town Built a Giant Straw Godzilla

Strawzilla

If you visit the Japanese town of Chikuzen, you might find yourself coming face to face with the King of Monsters himself—Godzilla. Luckily, instead of being several stories tall and dousing puny humans with his atomic breath, this Godzilla is made from rice straw and bamboo.

The citizens of Chikuzen built the straw kaiju as part of its autumnal harvest festival. It took over 150 volunteers four months to put together the 23-foot-tall statue. And while this representation of everybody’s favorite giant lizard may not be able to shoot lasers out of his eyes, he does feature a pair of glowing LED peepers.
